Essay Instructions: I would like the essay to explore the character of Birdie and her experience with the white gaze, whiteness and racism. The essay is focused on the novel Caucasia and the bell hook's article is the secondary source, Ruth Frankenberg is the third. All paraphrasing a quotes must be cited within the paper and grammar counts. This is a paper for a Women Studies course so phrasing must be politically correct, the prof would like us to use "whiteness" "white" or "white self" and "black" or "black self" to determine race identity. If possible, please try to relate heterosexual normativity as a theme in the essay as well, but not required.
