To be, or not to be: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune,
Or to take arms against a sea of troubles,
And by opposing end them? To die: to sleep;
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks
That flesh is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep;
To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub;
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
For who would bear the whips and scorns of time,
The oppressor's wrong, the proud man's contumely,
The pangs of despised love, the law's delay,
The insolence of office and the spurns
That patient merit of the unworthy takes,
When he himself might his quietus make
With a bare bodkin? who would fardels bear,
To grunt and sweat under a weary life,
But that the dread of something after death,
The undiscover'd country from whose bourn
No traveller returns, puzzles the will
And makes us rather bear those ills we have
Than fly to others that we know not of?
Thus conscience does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is sicklied o'er with the pale cast of thought,
And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action. - Soft you now!
The fair Ophelia! Nymph, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remember'd.

Essay Instructions: Counselors must often work with clients, or in crisis situations, in which the counselor may find his or her personal values and philosophy challenged. The most difficult crisis situation for many counselors is the suicidal client, or working with families and survivors after a suicide. If you have never been personally familiar with suicide, the emotions and social confusion will be great challenges in your work as a counselor ? even counselors with years of experience in the field are always affected by suicide.

One way to prepare you for the challenge is through movies on the topic of suicide. It also helps to have a basic grasp of the field of suicidology. For this project, you will first read an introductory article on Emile Durkheim's classic Le Suicide by Michael Robertson (attached) and review the Web site of the American Association of Suicidology for other information. Second, watch a movie in which a primary or secondary character commits suicide.I have choosen the movie..... What Dreams May Come
and have attached an analysis of the movie (that needs re worded).

Your essay should demonstrate a basic understanding of suicide, and how you respond to the suicide within the context of your own values and life philosophy, rather than as a future clinician. If the movie is based on a real rather than a fictional character, discuss how that might have changed your response. You will use Durkheim's model (or another suicide model) to analyze your personal philosophy as it relates to suicide. Finally, include a discussion on any cultural issues raised in the movie.

Project Requirements
To achieve a successful project experience and outcome, you are expected to meet the following requirements:

?Respond to the suicide in the movie from a personal rather than a counselor perspective. What are your personal values, religious, and life philosophy reaction to the suicide? Is there a relationship between suicidal character's situation and your life story?
?Present the suicide within the framework of Durkheim's model or another suicide model you may find in your research. Analyze how well the model may integrate with your life philosophy. What about the chosen model draws you? How do the basic assumptions of the model integrate with your own philosophy, values, and life story?
?Discuss any cultural issues presented by the movie or the character's suicide. How do the multicultural assumptions of the suicide integrate with your personal philosophy, beliefs, and values?
?Written communication: Written communication should be free of errors that detract from the overall message, and incorporate accurate grammar that conveys the overall message accurately.
?Number of Resources: You must use a minimum of 6 resources that are not required for this course.
?Length of paper: 5 pages in length, not including title page, abstract, and reference page.
?Font and font size: Times New Roman, 12 point, double-spaced.
