Written below are the specific requirements for this paper along with discussion thoroughly in class to complete your understanding.

- Choose a social issue that has affected the United States over the course of time.
o Civil Rights Movement

- Describe the social issue. Take your social issue through the stages of a social movement: 1.) initial unrest 2.) resource mobilization 3.) organization 4.) Institutionalization 5.) Organizational decline or resurgence

- Discuss how the three sociological perspectives viewed this issue. (Symbolic, Functionalist, & Conflict)

- Discuss propaganda utilized during the social movement.

- How this social issue has affected at least four other social institutions. (Family, Medical, Science, Education, Religion, Government)

- Discuss what type of social movement this was. (alternative, redemptive, reformative, transformative)

- What is the current status of your chosen social issue?

- Paper must be double spaced, 12 font, and 7-9 pages in length.

Understanding of the three sociological perspectives through demonstration of their theories with your issue. (can you explain these theories through your social issue) 10 points.

State social movement and explain why you choose this along with what is the current status of this social movement. 10 points.

Social issues are a part of life and our society. For example, divorce, abuse, alcoholism, racism, sexism etc. Many authors explore these issues through novels, picture books etc.

****Use "Paper Bag princess" and "And Tango Makes Three" books that deals with this social issue (sexism). Compare and contrast how the author deals with the subject matter in each book.****

You must use direct primary quotes from the novels/stories to provide evidence for your paper. Essays that have no quotes from primary sources will not earn a passing grade.

2) Word processed, double spaced, and composed in proper sentences and paragraphs.
3) Align the paper at the left margin only. Do not right align or right justify (have all the words line up at the right margin). This is incorrect format. For example, notice how the words in the paragraphs above form a ?ragged? edge at the right. This document is left aligned, which is the correct format.
4) Margins: 1? for top, bottom, left, and right.
