Title: Personal Statement please be creative in selection the topic attention getting topic

Total Pages: 2 Words: 856 Bibliography: 0 Citation Style: APA Document Type: Essay

Essay Instructions: Write at least 2 pages that include: 1)Experiences and education which demonstrate your concern and capacity to work with people 2)Your professional goals in pursing the masters in counselor education 3) Any special areas of interest in counseling or any additional information that is important to you.

Basically, I would like the personal statement/admission essay to be written in a narrative format. I would like the story of my life to be written as a soccer tournament. You can be as creative as you like. Please contact me via phone at if you cannot do in this story format. I still need the admission essay to be written. My application is due tomorrow. Below I have included information on the counselor education program at San Jose State University, then info on my professional experience. Finally, I finish with my academic information from the University of Arizona

The primary purpose of the Department of Counselor Education is to provide professional preparation in guidance, counseling, and student personnel work. The graduate program encompasses both a School Counseling Specialization Credential and a Master of Arts degree program. On line course information may be obtained at the SJSU web catalog.
The mission of the Department of Counselor Education is to prepare guidance and counselor candidates who will enhance quality and excellence for all students and human being in an increasingly diverse, technologically complex, and global community.

As for my professional experience, I currently work as an outreach consultant for Willow Glen Middle School in San Jose, CA. I coordinate the student assistant program and the student success team. Basically, children are referred because of their academic performace/ grades, attendance, and or behavior. We brain storm, meet with the parents, student and teachers, counselor, nurse, and whomever else is needed to come up with an action plan. Then, we do follow up to make sure we are meeting the needs of the children and families. We also evaluate if previous modifications are working...if not we come up with new ones. I just started this job 9/03. Previously, from 9/03 to 8/03 I was a provider education coordinator. I trained home child care providers on developmentally appropriate practice, health & safety, conflict resolution, business management, child development, and behavior guidance. All of the topics targeted infants through school age children. I also trained them for the DES , department of economic security, home child care certification process. The job before that I got right after I graduated. I graduated in Dec2001. I started working 1/02 as an early childhood specialist. I assisted child care centers in the NAEYC, National Association for the Education of Young Children, certification process. I used their observation manual to evaluate based on NAEYC criterion teachers/caregivers interaction with the children, environment, health, safety, administration, physical development, social, emotional, cognitive development. Then I would meet with the center director and teacher to come up with an action plan to meet the NAEYC standards and prepare them for the validation visit. Please feel free to call me at with more questions.
My overall GPA for undergrad was 2.557; however, my psychology major GPA is 3.6 and upper division units 3.108. I believe that my overall GPA was effected in the Spanish classes that I took one semester. I didn't drop the courses that I registered for, so I failed a full semester. Anyhow, once I found out that psychology was what I wanted to study my grades were extremely high. I graduated Dec2001. I got honorable mention Spring and Fall 2001.
