Title: Focus on a Literary Theme Form or Mode Postmodern Literature

Total Pages: 6 Words: 1734 References: 3 Citation Style: MLA Document Type: Research Paper

Essay Instructions: The title of my course is called: Focus on a Literary Theme, Form, or Mode: Postmodern Literature. I need to write an 7-page essay. For this paper, I need to select a passage from Roland Barthes' essay, "The Death of the Author" (http://social.chass.ncsu.edu/wyrick/debclass/whatis.htm) according to one aspect of postmodernism (please do it on "reality"--yes, that's the one aspect that I told the professor I would write it on). This aspect of postmodernisn (reality) will become my paper topic for discussing Hunter S. Thompson's book, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas," and Don DeLillo's book, "White Noise." Here is my professor's required structure of the essay (in his words):
-your introductory paragraph should introduce the two texts/books, introduce the aspect of postmodernism in which you wish to discuss (in my case---reality), then provide a thesis statement that incorporates these elements into a literary analysis/argument, and provide a short indication of what the rest of the paper will look like.
-the rest of the body paragraphs should be devoted to close readings of the two texts/books, while focusing solely on that aspect of postmodernism (reality) that is the essay's topic/focus
-conclusion that ties it all together--you could also indicate where the argument could go further, what the argument's limitations were, etc.
***According to my professor, successful papers will need to make use of CLOSE readings to support its argument. Please write the essay in such a way that will make use of close readings (cite page numbers), and not too general like the points made on websites like sparknotes. Essay must be college junior level. Please do not plagiarize anything as my professor will scan all papers. Also, I need 7 FULL pages of writing. Please do not use headings or unnecessary indent to take up space, as I do not need any headings or title. If you have any questions, please email me. Thanks so much for your help!!!
