Read the following research scenario and identify the role that you have been assigned. = Research Subject (Participant)
A researcher is conducting an exploratory study on methods of coping by the elderly after the death of a loved one. The goal of the study is to explore how the elderly best cope with the loss of a great magnitude, such as that of a child. The benefits of the study, according to the researcher, are the therapeutic effects of sharing the experience with someone who is caring and use of the information to assist others who might face the same experience. The potential harmful effect is that sharing the experience means the possibility of evoking unpleasant emotions. The researcher received approval from a local University institutional review board (IRB). One of the IRB members points out that the researcher must report back any adverse occurrences since the specified age group is considered a vulnerable population.
The subjects for the study are ages 65 and older who reside in an assisted living facility in a small mid-western city. Residents with severe memory loss were excluded from the study. Mrs. G., who is 77 years old and lives in the facility with her 79-year-old spouse, was selected to participate in the study because she has recently lost her son. The researcher explains the research study to both Mrs. G. and her husband and her husband signs the consent form on her behalf. Just prior to the start of the study Mrs. G.'s husband states that he does not remember the information explained by the researcher, nor signing the consent form. The nursing supervisor is in the room when the researcher begins collecting the data and is concerned that Mr. G does not have an understanding of the purpose of the research study. Mr. G. then states ?I just don?t want her to be a guinea pig.?
You will know the names of the other students in class who have the same role as you (based on the roster), and you are encouraged to talk with each other via email or IM so that you can discuss the scenario and how you would precede, given your assigned role. Assign a spokesperson for your group who will report back to the others in seminar.
Unit 6 Project
you will need to complete your Unit 6 project which will summarize the nurses? role in addressing human rights/ethics based on the information and experiences you have gained. In a 3- 5 page paper addressing the following:
? Summarize the nurses? role in addressing human rights/ethics in the role playing exercise.
? Do you think the clients? human rights were respected in the scenario? Discuss any misgivings or concerns you might have had, or discuss why you think the human rights and ethical boundaries were properly observed.
? What did you learn? Based on the experience, discuss which practices you thought were most valuable or what you might do differently in facing a similar situation.

The Global Health Problem I chose was AIDS.

The international human right to health has been established through various international agreements and other documents, as depicted in “Table 12: Sources for the human right to health” (pp. 279??"280). Among the principles that are asserted as human rights are the availability, accessibility, acceptability, and quality of public health and health care services.

In this Application Assignment you are asked to analyze a global public health problem using the international human right to health as a framework. In what ways would a human rights approach to the problem help to provide solutions to the health threat?

Begin by examining a global health problem, such as a particular infectious or chronic disease or type of injury. Alternatively, choose specific public health problems such as lack of access to medical or dental care, war, or a natural disaster. Research your topic by locating and reading at least three primary research articles.


Then, write a 3- to 5-page paper in which you address the following:

Explain why your selected health threat is global and not national in nature.
Using the international human right to health as a framework, describe the severity of this problem. Focus particularly on the availability, accessibility, acceptability, and quality of public health and health-care services related to your chosen global health threat. (Refer to Box 17, p. 281.)

Do you think that a human rights approach is an appropriate and effective method for addressing this particular health issue? Take a stand and justify your position.
