Essay Instructions: This is for the course Research Writing. We have written three page and five page research papers leading up to this one. It is supposed to be 9-10 pages with 10 different cited sources (more than half need to be non-internet). My thesis is: The great wars in American history, the Civil War and World War II, had lasting effects on small town communities interracial relationships long after the guns were silenced. This thesis is based on the two books we read 'A Lesson Before Dying' by Gaines, Ernest J and 'Snow Falling on Cedars' by Guterson, David. 'Lesson' is about small town black and white problems long after the civil war. 'Snow' is about small town japenese-american and american problems long after World War II. So I guess you would want to talk about civil rights and slavery acts and such for 'Lesson' and japenese concentration camps in america and hatred towards one another during World War II for 'Snow'. Alot of this evidence is in the main characters' trial. As for the citations, we just use MLA, so no footnotes or anything is needed, just the works cited page and after every reference in the essay include (Source Page).
